Video: What Would Being Ourselves Mean to Us?
Listening to ourselves and learning to be more in tune with our heart and instincts is not always an easy process, but it is often very rewarding. Being ourselves – finding out who we really are – may reveal some unexpected truths that can be confronting and challenging. Discovering a truth about yourself can be a wonderful revelation, but to then live that truth is another thing entirely and you may find yourself constantly overcoming obstacles. But as life in any case is built from so many challenges, this discovery is one that’s worth exploring.
The pursuit to be the truest version of ourselves is the attempt to create that space, where we let our inner wisdom reveal our own personal truths to us. When this happens, we can put aside the expectations we have of ourselves, or the expectations put upon us by those around us and our broader community or society. We can then connect to our own desires, wishes and resources and move toward our goals. To agree to listen to ourselves and embrace our life, allows us to acknowledge our own path, and build our own unique future. By doing that, we invite others around us to join in on this magnificent journey, where one person is not like another, and each of us can contribute so much to the dance of life.
Discovering and tuning into our own inner wisdom is a process that can take a life time, but if we manage to refine the skill to do it, we find it allows us to be more deeply ourselves. In a world where we are taught to conform, one of the most important and revolutionary things we can do is to discover and embrace who we really are.
The pursuit is not of ‘the best version’ of ourselves, but in fact it is the pursuit of ‘the truest version’ of ourselves. It is only in that space, where we let our inner wisdom reveal our own personal truths to us, rather than those put upon us by those around us and our broader community or society, that we are really ‘being ourselves’.
