Flow – Practitioner Q & A: Susi Rosenbohm, Germany

We see the flow of life, like a river – as one great flowing journey. The essential flow of life is achieved when we understand the concept of flow and can integrate it into everything we do.

As part of a regular series, we are asking Pantarei practitioners from around the world, to share with us some insights into their life, their work and what flow means to them.

Q. Tell us about yourself and what you do

My background is in dance, theatre, performance, personal development, somatics and in questioning everything! In general, I’m curious about exploring movement, bodies and connections on several levels – mental, emotional, physical and interpersonal, alone or with other people. Also between divided disciplines, in practice and theory. I do that in different contexts as a dancer, educator, choreographer, daily life human and now also as a Pantarei student. My overall questions most of the time are: What is most important here? What is a given and what is not? How can I make sense of what is not a given? How can I and the people I’m with, have creative, sensual, playful and fulfilling lives?

 Q. What touches you about Pantarei Approach?

The Pantarei Approach touches me because it is nourishing and it connects my different backgrounds in a holistic and creative way. It supports the clients to take responsibility for their lives and at the same time to trust that all the answers to their questions are always with them – they are already within their bodies. I enjoy this process of exploring what happens with the client and the body. The approach also links very well with my values: honesty, integrity, creativity, flexibility, sensitivity and simplicity.

Q. What does being in flow mean to you?

Being in flow to me means being really physically in my whole body. This state feels warm, like a sparkling night sky and sometimes I feel waves of energy going through me. I’m just there and alive, doing things effortlessly, with no resistance, but with pleasure and lightness and always with a playful approach. In this state I totally trust my impulses and it also feels very focused and clear, but without the need to know everything beforehand.

Q. How have you seen flow in action in your life?

I grew up at the Baltic sea so I know and enjoy the flow of water, wind and sand at their many different qualities. Besides that I see flow in action in my life – between people when they are laughing, loving, playing, dancing and having inspiring conversations with each other.

I also like to be at a viewing point, like a platform or a mountain and observe how other people’s daily lives and the cities below me are flowing. My current favourite flow is in a contact improvisation jam; also in other tuned and aware processes of creation, like in arts when the focus is on exploring something bigger and everybody contributes to that in their own way.
