Emotions are such an important part of any process. As practitioners we know those moments in a session when emotions arise. The room changes, the atmosphere becomes something new, the experience of life can transform itself in a matter of seconds.
In sessions our clients might be moved by their emotions or try to suppress them. They might be aware of what they feel, or push it to the side. Some clients are surprised when they feel certain things, or are seeking a certain emotion they once felt.
As practitioners, we are looking for a way to make space for our client’s emotions; being able to notice them, talk about them, let them flow and at the same time, guide our clients to a place where their emotions can empower them, their situations, and their relationships.
As practitioners, we also look for ways for us to deal with our own emotions when giving sessions – allowing empathy to take place, while keeping focus on the experience of our clients rather on ourselves.
In this course we will:
- Define what emotions are and their place in our lives
- Notice how much we can feel our clients, and be aware of their emotions
- Relate to the different emotions and their unique way of being experienced
- Explore how, by being aware of our body experience, we can allow the complexity of emotions to take place
- Learn how to let emotions guide us while continuing to guide and lead the process
- Understand how to be able to manage our own emotions as practitioners
- Know how to let emotions be a part of the completion of past events when needed
